Philosophy: It is the belief of the Barrington High School Special Services Department that each student is an individual with unique needs. There is a necessity for an acceptance of diversity and an understanding of multiple teaching and working styles when working with our students. The Special Services Department provides a variety of supports to help our students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Eligibility: The Special Services Department determines Special Education (IEP) and 504 eligibility through procedures established by Federal and
Continuum of Services: Our continuum of services is used to meet individual student needs, while assuring the Least Restrictive Environment is utilized. The IEP team will make decisions to determine placement in special education courses.
Programs: The Special Services Department offers a continuum of classes to meet students’ individual needs. Students may be enrolled in a mainstream schedule of courses, a special education schedule of courses, or a mixture of the two. Each student schedule is designed to meet the individual needs of the student.
· Instructional Courses: Our Instructional Program is designed to parallel the general education courses and meet all graduation requirements. These courses are smaller in class size, have built in modifications, and include additional staff support.

· Bridge Courses: The Bridge Program is designed to meet all of the graduation requirements, while utilizing a modified curriculum, and developing functional life skills through academics. These courses are smaller in class size, have built in modifications, and include additional staff support.

· Life Skills: The Life Skills Program is designed to meet the needs of students who require functional life skills training. This program is utilized to build daily living skills for personal care and community opportunities.

· Inclusion: The Inclusion Program is designed to meet the needs of students who are diagnosed with autism. The program utilizes individual supports to allow students to find success in the program that is most appropriate for them.

· LIFECO: The LIFECO Program is designed for students who need continued life skills past the four years of high school. The LIFECO program offers opportunities to build personal life skills, such as shopping, budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and personal care. In addition, students have an opportunity to work at a job site in the neighboring communities.
